Natural Ways to Relieve Your Pain

9/10/2014

Just like there are dozens of pain pills on the store shelves there are dozens of natural ways to relieve your pain. But pain relief is one thing and correcting the cause is another. If I want pain relief, I'm NOT going to take a pain pill. Why? Even though they are inexpensive and cheap they are chemical based and have side effects. Most people won't get side effects at first but with time they start to happen. Like an irritated stomach... the beginning of a stomach ulcer. High blood pressure.....then you go to the doctor and he prescribes another pill for that. Ran into a guy at Walgreens that I had met playing tennis a couple years ago. He was buying ...you guessed it...pain pills. His reasoning was..."i don't take them every day." And I told him that was safer but that the danger was in taking them for 10-!5-20 years. He looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights. I went on to explain the many natural ways to achieve pain relief. He put the bottle back on the shelf shook my hand and thanked me. What do you do for pain? ‪#‎healthcoachtips‬, ‪#‎painrelief‬, ‪#‎headaches‬,‪#‎migraines‬, ‪#‎neckpain‬

Lower Back Pain Relief Tips

Health Tips for low back pain sufferers. DO NOT sit for more than 30-45 minutes. Sit up straight don't slouch which puts more pressure on your mid to low back. Get up and go drink some preferably filtered alkaline Kangen water. Even if you just get up for 1-2 minutes will help the constant pressure on your spine and discs. At home lay down if you watch a lot of TV. Better to limit TV to 30-60 minutes. Go for a walk. Use a heating pad 15-20 minutes to soothe tight muscles. You can also use an ice pack for 10-15 minutes when you finish with the heat pad. Do some simple stretches, Yoga, TaiChi, Qigong etc. are all excellent. Massage, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Chiropractic, can also be a life saver. Many people take Motrin Advil, or prescription drugs because their medical doctor recommended prescribed that. For short term use like a week or two is not so dangerous but if you take it longer your risks of nasty side effects increases with time and dosage. BEWARE!! Over the counter and prescription drugs are the leading cause for stomach bleeding ulcers, liver & kidney damage and many other side effects. Be smart and don't regret it years down the road! ‪#‎chiropractic‬, ‪#‎healthcoachtips‬, ‪#‎lowbackpain‬, ‪#‎backpainrelief‬

I've come across a new technology for pain and wellness. It is based on the science of Acupuncture and Homeopathy. It is an amazing scientific breakthrough that has been around for a few years but just now am learning about it. I put a few patches on a patients knee and his pain reduced from a +8 to a + 4 and put another patch and it reduced the pain to a +1. He could not believe it neither could I!!

Did you know.... pain is a signal from your body telling you something is wrong. It's so easy to pop a pain pill when suffering with pain. But all that does is cover up the pain for a while. It is not correcting the cause of your pain. Be smart and don't be a pain pill popper.

8 Tips for Treating Your Low Back Pain and Disc Herniations  By Dr. Gonzalez

1. Do not sit for too long…. 20-30 minutes at a time is OK. Lie down, stand up, walk around, sit down. You may have already figured out if you sit too long you hurt more especially when getting up and that you have to keep varying your positions. Also, when you do sit avoid the sofa. Most sofas are too soft. Sit in a hard chair with a good back rest. You can roll up a towel into a roll and use for supporting your low back. You can also use this roll when you’re lying on your back. The key is to not make it too big or too small.

2. Use an ice pack for the pain and inflammation. 20 minutes on and then remove. Reapply after 30 minutes if needed. You can also alternate heat and ice. Heat for 10-15 minutes then ice for 15-20 minutes. You can use the roll with the ice pack on top. This gives your low back excellent support while icing it.

3. DO NOT bend over for anything. When tying your shoes cross your leg or put them up on a chair to tie. DO NOT bend over. If you drop something, get on one knee or squat to pick it up. Avoid heavy lifting.

4. Depending on your Inversion machine, if you have the one where you hang from the thighs, you can do back extension exercises. You may only be able to come up a little at first and after a few days you may be able to come up much higher to where you are horizontal.

5. If you don’t have an Inversion machine, you can also do what I call arch the back exercises while lying on your stomach. With your arms to your sides you lift your chest and legs at the same time…creating an arch. You can also do a half push-up by lying on your stomach and putting your hands on the floor as if you are going to lift your chest off the floor. These exercises will help reduce the disc herniation and provide pain relief. Do 3, 4, 5 up to 8,9,10. Start with what’s comfortable for you. You will feel some pain as you are doing them but should feel much better afterwards. Don’t overdo it, but don’t be afraid of the pain or let it stop you from working out your back. You know your body better than any doctor. Ice afterwards.

6. I’m not a fan of OTC or prescription drugs but if you really need to take any pills, try to take them only at night to help you sleep. Make sure you take them with large glass of water and preferably with a piece of fruit etc. The reason you want to avoid taking pills is that you want to be able to monitor your pain and not be numbed out because then you don’t really know how your back is doing. If you can’t feel the pain, you will sit longer and do stuff you would not normally do if you feel the pain.  Also people on pain pills tend to heal slower…. they interfere with the body’s natural healing.

7. Have you seen a good Chiropractor? Chiropractic adjustments many times work wonders! And when you combine Inversion with Chiropractic …that is a prescription for long term pain relief and even a cure. The key is finding the right Chiropractor. You may want to read my article… How To Find The Right Chiropractor For You.

8. Use your inversion machine as often as every hour if you can. You might want to start with one or two minutes at a 45 degree angle (if you have the type where you hang from the ankles). As you feel more comfortable you can gradually increase the angle to where you are completely upside down. Start slow and get comfortable with Inversion. You will LOVE it!

I HANG, I STRETCH , I’M PAIN FREE!!  By Dr. Gonzalez

The slogan, “I Hang, I Stretch, I’m Pain Free” was inspired by the many companies that use slogans to create brand awareness such as WalMart’s- Save Money. Live Better. I had been wanting to create my own slogan for some time now and just the other day, while at the movies with my children, an advertisement for Jeep came on the screen and then it came to me, “I Hang, I Stretch, I’m Pain Free!”
Picture
I can’t say enough good things about Inversion Therapy (hanging upside down) and how it has helped get rid of my neck and low back pains.

It has also helped thousands of my patients now that I have been using this technique for over twenty years.

This blog came about because there are millions of people who suffer with back and neck problems and need to learn about this technique. I wanted to share my results with the world. I felt the best way to get this information out to the world was to write a book and promote this information on a blog.

It’s  taken me three and a half years to research and write the book, HANGING OUT FOR PAIN RELIEF- How Inversion Can Cure Your Back Pain in 3 Minutes a Day.

You can read an excerpt from HANGING OUT FOR PAIN RELIEF here on this blog….look for the article/blog post…Commonly Asked Questions about Inversion Therapy.

I just want to iterate that at first you may not understand why hanging upside down is so good for your spine or discs. But it’s a fun and simple yet extremely effective way to stretch and decompress the human body, specifically the spine and discs. All it takes is just one minute a day for maintenance. If you have a disc problem you may need to hang for one minute three to six times a day until the problem resolves.

Here’s the main reason why hanging upside down is so effective for treating disc herniations and many other back and spine problems. Gravity causes compression to the body when you are sitting or standing.

Picture
Hanging upside down will decompress the spine due to the compression effects of gravity. It’s that simple. Nothing else will reverse the effects of gravity like Inversion Therapy. Nothing. Learn more by going to this article I wrote Commonly Asked Questions About Inversion Or Hanging Upside Down. Click this link and read morehttp://drcarlosmgonzalez.com/?p=114

Spinal surgery is risky and there is no guarantee that your back pain will be cured with surgery. In fact, my experience of over twenty four years with dealing with patients and listening to their comments is this: of those people who have had spinal surgery about 1/3 get better …some completely some a little better some a lot better but still have some pain. 1/3 have no change and 1/3 get worse. Besides the uncertainty of any surgery especially the spine there are several risks you will face.  and the risks depend on the surgeon and the type of surgery you are being recommended. Infection, blood clots, memory loss from the anesthesia. Read more about the risks and complications here. http://www.spine-health.com/treatment/spinal-fusion/potential-risks-and-complications-acdf-surgery

So if you want a simple, fast, effective and inexpensive way to treat and or prevent spinal problems……start hanging! It’s fast, simple and effective. One minute a day to a healthier, happier and longer life!

What You Need To Know BEFORE You Are In a Car Crash By Dr. Gonzalez

8/29/2013

Picture
For approximately the last twenty years the insurance industry has trained their claims adjustors to believe that if someone has been involved in a minor car crash the people in the vehicle could not possibly be hurt. And if those people seek care and file a claim for medical payments they and the doctors are probably committing fraud.

While there have been problems in the past with some people staging accidents and filing false claims, it is irresponsible to promote that ALL people involved in ALL minor car crashes are not hurt and are simply filing fraudulent claims.

The insurance industry spent millions of dollars on billboards, radio and TV ads promoting “STOP LAWSUIT ABUSE” to the public. You may recall seeing or hearing one of those ads. They did this so that if you were picked on a jury for a car crash case “STOP LAWSUIT ABUSE” would be fresh on your mind and you would think these people were not really hurt and just filing false claims. This scheme together with the courtroom drama by the attorneys that represent the insurance companies would usually be enough to render a decision in favor of the insurance company to NOT provide for any medical payments or for pain and suffering for the innocent car crash victim(s). Furthermore, these ads may lead you to falsely believe if YOU were in a minor car crash, sought medical treatment and filed a claim YOU might be committing fraud.

I have testified in court dozens of times as a Doctor of Chiropractic and Expert Witness for my patients. The attorney protecting the insurance company would do everything in his/her power to protect the insurance company he/she is representing from not having to pay any money or as little as possible. The attorneys bring up issues like why did you wait two weeks before seeking care…because if you were really hurt you would have sought care right away. The truth is many people try to tough it out and self medicate until they realize that the pain is not going away and in some cases is getting worse. The insurance company’s attorney will look for everything and anything to try to discredit you and your doctor. This is why it is IMPORTANT to be examined as soon as possible. It is even more important that you be seen by a specialist who is trained specifically in whiplash and spinal trauma AND will document ALL your injuries properly. This is VERY IMPORTANT! I cannot stress the importance of this. Get seen right away by a specialist trained in whiplash and spinal trauma. A big mistake is to see your family doctor who does not likely have this type of specific training.

If you are taken to the emergency room know that the fees for the ambulance are high and the ER visit will also be very costly. Make sure you have the proper insurance coverage or if you were struck by another vehicle that person has insurance to cover those bills. If you do go to the Emergency Room, unless you have severe injuries, the doctor at the hospital may tell you there is nothing wrong or nothing seriously wrong and that you may be sore for a few days. The doctor may refer you to an orthopedic surgeon or simply tell you to follow up with your family doctor. Unless you really need surgery why would you go to an orthopedic surgeon? Because your attorney wants you too. It makes your case look better. That’s for another discussion not covered here.

The next issue is do you really need an attorney? No, not in every case although some attorneys will disagree with me. Some people end up seeing one of those attorneys that advertise heavily on TV. While this is OK, some of these law firms see so many people you probably will never speak with the attorney but will talk with the paralegal. Some of these attorneys don’t even live in El Paso. They will usually send you to one of their preferred clinics for your treatments. The treatments are sometimes not the BEST. If you are in this situation and you are not getting results, you have the right to switch doctors. A recent new patient of mine told me this happened to her and she only saw the Chiropractor one time. Her case settled she got a small amount of money and she still hurts. This is in essence YOUR money being spent. It should be money well spent. You have the right to choose where you go and get treated. You want to go where the doctor has a good reputation and where you will get the BEST RESULTS. Likewise you want an attorney who is going to really look after you and not just his/her bank account. Be smart and don’t believe everything you see on TV commercials.

There are some people that may have been involved in a minor car crash and think they are not really hurt. They think they are just a little sore or have very mild pain. When the soreness or mild pain usually does go away they think they are OK. Because the mild pain or soreness went away this may not necessarily be an indication that everything is OK. Too often I have seen many patients come back a month or two or years later complaining now of headaches, back or neck pain.

In other cases, the pain never really goes away but lingers. Because the pain is very mild and tolerable some people will not go and get examined. This is not very smart because the spine could be injured and misaligned. This may cause mild pain, some discomfort or NO pain at all. If the spine is not properly aligned and corrected it can develop into osteoarthritis, disc problems and affect you in the future.

There are many other issues like…”Where do I have to take my car to get fixed?” “Will they use new or used parts?” “Am I entitled to a rental car while my car is getting fixed”? “How long can I keep the rental car?” There are other issues involving your car, your medical treatments and your compensation for pain and suffering, lost wages etc. The important thing is…. if you have been involved in ANY type of car crash GET SEEN RIGHT AWAY BY A SPECIALIST TRAINED IN WHIPALSH. Don’t put if off thinking you have to get approval from the insurance company. Many times they waste precious time and stall in returning your phone calls or they will offer you a few hundred dollars in hopes that you accept and sign a waiver to any future claims. DO NOT sign that disclaimer. One final note…. take pictures of all vehicles involved and of any bruises or cuts you may have. The police report may state there was minor damage when it was not. Pictures are worth a thousand words. Also, keep a pain journal explaining how the pain has affected your life.

I have successfully been treating these types of injuries for over 23 years. I want to help you get the best treatment you are entitled to and deserve. Call today to schedule your free consultation.

What Insurance Companies and Some Attorneys Do Not Want You To Know If You Have Been In A Car Crash! By Dr. Gonzalez

There has been lots of research done on whiplash and minor car crash by Dr Arthur Croft and the Spine Research Institute of San Diego, Society of Automotive Engineers, National Institute of Health (NIH) using crash test dummies and live volunteers. Research proved that even a car crash at 5 mph can cause injuries to the neck. Another surprising fact to many people is that the NIH found that 53% of the people involved in car crashes and suffered whiplash type of injuries never fully recover! They end up with chronic, permanent, lifetime pain. This does not mean that they are totally disabled but they will suffer with that mild to severe neck pain for the rest of their lives! There are 7 handouts explaining all this and much more that I use to explain to my patients and then it becomes part of their medical record in case we need to go to court.

Some insurance companies especially one that claims “You are in Good Hands” may put part of the blame on you for the car crash. They will allege that you are 20% liable and they will now only pay for 80% of the damages to your car. This is abuse by the insurance company.

Likewise you want an attorney who is going to really look after you and not just his/her bank account. Most attorneys DO NOT help you with the settlement of your car or getting a rental car. If the insurance company is going to give you a less than fair amount for your car who will fight for you. Be smart and don’t believe everything you see on TV commercials.
