MOMS Listen Up! A high temperature can be alarming, but in an otherwise healthy child it usually isn't something serious. A fever often means that a body is working the way it should and fighting off infection. You DON'T have to take your child to the ER or pediatrician every time your child gets sick or has a fever. The fever is there to kill any viruses or bacteria. You just need to make sure the fever doesn't get above 100.4 if less than 3 months old . 3-6 months the fever should not get to over 101. 6 -12 months should be no more than 103. At any age you can put your child in the tub with cool water. Use wet wash cloths to cool your child. Give your child plenty of fluids. I am NOT a big fan of Pedialyte as it contains lots of junk!! Use filtered water and squeeze some fresh orange juice or juice an apple and mix with water. If your child does not eat that's OK!! When my son was around a year old and got really sick he did not eat for 3 days and on the 4th day ate jello and fruit and on the 5th day was running as if nothing had happened. No pediatrician, No Tylenol, No antibiotics.
