Your earning capacity is your most valuable asset. Losing your health can greatly impact your ability to earn money and provide for your family.
I recently saw a patient of mine a couple of days ago whose health has continued to decline over the years. He’s stressed out, overworked and his business is not doing so well. He’s in danger of losing his livelihood. He has also gained over fifty pounds in the last three years. His blood pressure is high, his blood sugar is in a dangerous zone and he’s a walking time bomb. His wife is overly demanding and his brother has caused lots of grief so that now he no longer has a good relationship with him or his mother.
His father passed away about a year ago which was a blessing to all because his mother suffered as a result of having to take care of him as his health was very poor. So for many years this poor wife neglected her health to take care of her sick husband and now suffers greatly because of the neglect to her own health. I know these can be difficult situations but YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO NEGLECT YOUR OWN HEALTH, at least for too long. Yes you can get away with it for some time but eventually that neglect will catch up to you in some form or another. You could have a heart attack or stroke. If you’re lucky you might survive and live. If you’re extra lucky hopefully you will not have partial paralysis, speech or cognitive problems. I’m sure many if not most of you have seen these poor souls who walk around dragging a leg or an arm or both from the paralysis to one side of the body or who cannot talk or are in a wheel chair.
Too many people take their health for granted. Just because they are not in severe pain they think they are alright. Nothing could be further from the truth. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, cancer, arthritis, acid reflux, osteoporosis etc. are NOT really “diseases”. They are malfunctions from you not taking care of your body. We can argue whether or not these are diseases but the fact is you don’t have to accept these conditions as a part of aging and use getting older as an excuse or because your parents suffered with these same problems . Violating two basic principles such as not eating the right foods and not exercising the body are a sure way to eventually end up with health problems.
Unless you are born with Type 1 Diabetes or some other genetic defect most health problems are from poor lifestyle choices. You are not going to learn these basic principles from television commercials. You will learn how to take care of your body when you decide to take charge and control of your life.
I encourage you to do a little homework by getting on your computer and Google the topics you have the least knowledge of. Learn to become your own best doctor and prevent lots of unnecessary trips to the emergency room, pediatrician or family doctor. You will also save money, time and risks from prescription drugs.
